Artist's Statement

I paint what I love and what lives around me. I have lived around animals all my life. When I was a small child I lived in the bush of Alaska, and there I was exposed to raw nature. I lived in an isolated community 350 mile east of any major city or town. There were no roads, restaurants, or shopping. I had a lot of time to spend with nature.

All animals have a visual language, and each species is different. I paint animals and catch a moment, an attitude, what they are speaking, through my eyes. I try to give the viewer a bit of what I experience, and hope they can take a bit of that home with them.

I like to use strong values, exposing the shapes on the subject, making a strong pose. I take a flat surface and sculpt the form with paint. I keep the painting loose to give the impression that it is alive.

I now live on a one hundred and forty acre ranch in Northern California with our herd of horses and cattle. The ranch is the last house on the grid. There is no power after our ranch, and neighbors are few. I share our spread with assortment of wildlife such as wild boar, deer, mountain lion, wild turkeys, and black bear. My experiences and subject matter are at no end. The wild and domesticated animals live forever captured in a moment on my canvas. Each painting tells a bit of their story.

Angela Edmonds
Biography

As a child Angela had lived in the bush of Alaska and rural Minnesota. This is where she learned the appreciation of wildlife. Angela received her BA in Fine Art from the California Institute of the Arts in California. She started her career as a layout artist for Walt Disney Feature Animation and gradually transformed into a fine artist.

She started to paint in oil to refresh her creative energy as a filmmaker. A few years later she started to release her paintings for sale. Her subject matter is her ranch animals and whatever wildlife wonders onto her ranch that she shares with her husband and menagerie of barnyard beasts. The paintings of more exotic animals are from her trips to Alaska, wildlife parks, and Zoos.

Angela Edmonds presently owns and directs Edmonds Studios Animation. The studio is located in Red Bluff, California. She is a producer of commercials for television as well as a creator and art director for children’s programs. She uses almost every art medium to convey her ideas, however, oil is her medium of choice for painting the animals she loves.
