Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop & Reading

This event is supported by Poets & Writers, Inc. through a grant it has received from
The James Irvine Foundation

Soulmate - Sara Umemoto

Ekphrastic refers to a “conversation between two pieces of art”. In this case the “conversation” will be between the photographic art of Sara Umemoto and your poetry. (use this link to see the art being used in the Workshop)

There will be two Workshops - one will take place online (Virtual Workshop) and the other will take place in the Gallery on Saturday, March 27th from 1-4 PM. You can use the "Sign-Up" for either version - just check the box for "Virtual" or "Red Bluff Art Gallery" box. (The fee is the same for both.)

Your work can take place before the workshop, or be crafted during the workshop. Either way, you will have a chance to discuss the construction of your poetry with Professor Robert Davidson (CSU, Chico) during the workshop. You will then have the opportunity to do a reading the following week at a “First Friday Art Night” Reception at the Red Bluff Art Gallery. Your poetry will also be elgible to appear in the magazine “RatBag” (published by the Gallery) and online at the Gallery website, RedBluffArtGallery.com. Additionally, the online e-zine Wordsandtricks.net will be publishing a special edition comprised of poetry from the Ekphrastic Workshop.

"Virtual" workshop participants may be in other cities or countries, but will still have their work published on both the Gallery website and on the "Words and Tricks" website. Noteworthy poems will also be presented at the Gallery workshop and will be included in readings on Friday, April 2nd. We will try to have a Skype video link up for those who request it. Some poetry will also be published in the Gallery magazine, RatBag, June edition - to coincide with publishing in "Words and Tricks".
