My first exposure to a pottery class was at university. I got back into clay as a way to de-stress from my job as a commercial mortgage broker almost 4 years ago and haven’t looked back since. This year I started teaching clay and enjoy it almost as much as working in clay myself. I use the same teaching philosophy as my porcelain painting teacher, Antonia Acock, “I’m not teaching my competition, I’m building an army.” It’s a simple idea, but one that made perfect sense to me, there is so much of the individual in each piece of work that it doesn’t matter how much you show someone their work will never look just like yours.

Each piece is unique showing the hands of the artist, inspired by both ancient and modern artists. The ancient influences are: Pictographs and Petroglyphs from around the world, mythology, and Stone Age to Bronze Age pottery. The modern influences are mainly three potters: George Ohr, Peter Voulkos, and Robert Sperry. I have experimented in many firing techniques: green fire trench kiln, sawdust, pit, raku, down draft barrel, electric, gas, and woodfire.

I currently have pieces in private collections in: Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, New York, and Ireland.
