Five years ago, and after teaching elementary and junior high school for 32 years, Sandi Howell began her quest to share with others the beauty of God's creations as she saw them through her photography and watercolor painting. Having always loved art as a child, Sandi incorporated many art lessons into her teaching over the years but had little time after leaving college to do much of her own art. That has all changed with retirement, and from her home studio, Sandi has produced vibrant and detailed watercolor paintings and photographic works that have won national and local awards.
Sandi is also an avid gardener whose garden has been featured in a local newspaper and on a garden tour. This garden has been the source of inspiration of many of her macro-photography floral images. In 2009, she was not only the featured artist at both the Studio Experience Gallery (where her work is displayed year 'round) and the North Valley Art League but was also Artist of the Month at numerous Art Hop locations in Redding. Sandi delights in attempting to replicate the beauty and details she sees with the camera lens as well as the feeling of emotional serenity in both her photographic art and photo-realistic watercolor paintings.
Sandi's first piece to hang at the Red Bluff Art Gallery was her entry, "Predator at Peace" in the 2009 Glass Eye International Photography Show. As a member of the Red Bluff gallery, Sandi hopes to share her work with a new audience. In addition, she desires to be a part of an environment that both celebrates artist creativity and provides an active opportunity for artists to inspire and help each other to grow.
