Dana Eker
Dana Eker, watercolorist and former owner of Mendocino Water garden and Pond Service in Laytonville, CA was introduced to Farmer’s Markets by inheriting her son’s sprout business. To dress up the sprout display, she brought some of her water lilies and found the request from the public for plants was overwhelming. Her water garden business began to bloom.
While doing Farmer’s Markets in Ft. Bragg, Ukiah, Willits, Mendocino and Laytonville in Mendocino County, California, the colorful goings on of the markets caught the attention of Dana’s paintbrush. Dana has won ribbons at the Boonville Apple Fair, Redwood Empire Fair in Ukiah and sold her paintings and prints in Eureka, Ft. Bragg, Mendocino, Laytonville, and Tucson, Arizona where she lived for several years.
Lecturing on pond life and algae control to the Mendocino Koi and Water Garden Society, school classrooms and The Master Gardeners of Lake County has been a sideline of pond consulting. Teaching art in public school, private summer classes and in several small galleries along with piano lessons has given Dana opportunity to share her knowledge and experience.
Art classes were always part of her education from grade school, Mt. Diablo High in Concord, CA where she graduated with an art award, to Shasta College for Commercial Art, College of the Redwoods with Lin Bottorf and Bill Martin, Mendocino College with Joey Sala. Private lessons were with Nancy Collins and Susan Barnes from the Mendocino Coast.
